Susannah’s Sauces in Brimpton: Homemade, gluten free and free of additives

PUBLISHED: 10:16 10 May 2016

Archant

Now feast your eyes on this super selection – they’ll take you through a six course treat if that’s what you fancy, says Sue Bromley

Busy, busy, busy, that’s Susannah Ferguson at her kitchen in the village of Brimpton near Newbury where the Susannah’s Sauces range was launched as a cottage industry just under a year ago.

All are homemade, gluten free and free of artificial additives and preservatives, what’s more they taste delicious. Susannah tells us: “Last month a German company approached us to make 14,000 of our Susannah’s Sauces Succulent Tomato Sauce. Sadly, this size of order was a bit more than we could produce in two weeks, but it bodes well for the future!”

In March she was at the Country Living Fair at the Islington Design Centre, having been awarded a ‘Newcomers’ stand. The fair attract some 25,000 people over five days over five days so this was a great chance to showcase the six sauces.

Susannah says: “They all have multiple uses, for example our chocolate spread also makes a great hot chocolate and our flirty French dressing is a great marinade.”

Susannah lives with her husband Julian and two young children but she’s not a ‘Berkshire girl’, having grown up in the Kent countryside where her interest in food developed, courtesy of ‘The Garden of England’.

She later worked with chef Michael Barry in producing the ‘Michael Barry’s Great House Cookery’ book which also became a hugely successful TV series, followed by ‘Famous Foods of the South’.

You can find Susannah’s Sauces at Cook & Butcher, Thatcham; Pangbourne Cheese Shop, Reading Road, Pangbourne; Fielders Farm Shop, Wickcroft Farm, Pangbourne Road, Theale; Saddleback Farm Shop, California Farm, Brightwalton; and The Community Shop in Hampstead Norreys.

They are also available online, including gift packs at www.susannahssauces.co.uk.
