The best seats at those pantos book up quickly… oh yes they do, so if you have a favourite here’s our pick of the local shows
Snow White - Sat 10 December to Sunday 8 January
CBeebies star Justin Fletcher returns, alongside Paul Morse, revelling in the title no less of being voted the UK Panto Fans’ Best Dame. They are joined on stage by former The Voice contestant Karl Loxley and Sarah Accomando as Snow White.
We’re promised spectacular sets and costumes as well as a right song and dance as our heroine faces the wrath of The Wicked Queen while the handsome prince seeks to marry her. Then there are those seven dwarves living and working in the forest. Expect plenty of laughs, of course, courtesy of Justin the Jester.
Tickets start at £12 and there are three special performances: a relaxed, quieter show with fewer special effects at 10.30am on 3 January, a signed performance at 1pm on 28 December, and an audio described performance the following day.
Cinderella - Friday 25 November to Saturday 31 December
Corn Exchange, Newbury
Get ready for absolute mayhem and mischief here and what is very much a family event with many long-term favourite local performers taking to the stage. It’s the traditional tale with Cinderella made to slave by her horrible step-mother and wicked step-sisters, but the handsome prince is determined to win her hand.
The Corn Exchange stages a fabulous performance at 2pm on the last day for an audience that includes people with the likes of autistic spectrum disorder, learning disabilities or photosensitivity. The friendly atmosphere involves no use of pyrotechnics that might startle and a host of other simple changes on stage and in the theatre to ensure a happy occasion for all. Tickets start at £18.50 with some concessions available.
Jack and the Beanstalk - Wednesday 30 November to Sunday 8 January
Theatre Royal Windsor
Tickets for this one always go very quickly, even before star cast members are announced, so it’s wise to book early. One thing’s for sure, a feast of entertainment is guaranteed as Steven Blakeley and the outrageous Kevin Cruise, also known as ‘The Dodgy Duo’ return this year. And prepare for some booming from above as none another than Brian Blessed provides the voice of the Giant at the top of that beanstalk.
Cinderella - Wednesday 30 November to Tuesday 3 January
South Hill Park, Bracknell
The Wilde Theatre will be transformed for the rags to riches story as Cinderella is helped by her Fairy Godmother to win the heart of Prince Charming at the palace ball.
You’ll find some of the most outrageous Ugly Sisters here and it’s worth noting that the 7pm performances on Friday 9, Thursday 15 and Friday 16 are adults-only performances. There’s also a signed performance at 2pm on 10 December.
Tickets start at £14 and there are various family and group concessions.
