The very best vehicles will be gleaming – hopefully in the sunshine – when Concours of Elegance 2016 is held at Windsor Castle this year
Tickets are now on sale and the first cars announced for this very special event which celebrates Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday. And there’s a wonderful royal link with one of the motors, a 1900 Daimler 6hp first bought by King Edward VII. As the very first Royal to ride in an automobile, and with this Daimler as the first Royal motorcar, it has an unrivalled history.
More than 1,000 cars will be on display in the castle grounds from 2 to 4 September, and will include others linked to the Royal Family. Motor racing fans will no doubt want to take a good look at a Ferrari 250 GTO raced by legendary British driver Graham Hill at the Goodwood Tourist Trophy of 1962, while from the present day the a stunning one-of-seven 2016 Touring Superleggera Disco Volante Spyder makes its UK debut. Using an Alfa Romeo 8C as its base, this handcrafted model is finished with a dramatic and retro-inspired body.
These cars will be among 60 judged world class and given a spot in the castle’s Quadrangle, while others can be seen in the surrounding grounds. A spectacular array of Ferraris, Aston Martins, Bentleys, Jaguars and other luxury cars will be parked up along the Long Walk. Special features include a display of innovative cars from each decade of Her Majesty’s reign.
Adult tickets start from £25, with concessions from £17.50. Children under five and carers can enter free of charge. A key objective is to raise significant sums for charity.
For the first time, Concours of Elegance is offering members of the public the opportunity to attend on Friday, 2 September, a day normally reserved for the Owners of the 60 main Concours cars. This special ‘Members’ ticket includes VIP parking, a souvenir catalogue, champagne, refreshments and access to the Members’ Marquee.
