Dragon boats at the ready

The annual Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival at Willen Lake on Sunday, 19 June, sees companies, clubs and organisations do battle. Last year over £22,000 was raised for Age UK Milton Keynes and the teams have a special incentive to raise as much money as possible thanks to The Swan at Salford. Frazer Sutherland of Peach Pubs, who run The Swan, says: “Age UK Milton Keynes is a great local cause and we look forward to serving a feast to the winning crew back at the pub.”

Woburn Abbey Garden Show

This event on 25 and 26 June is a great day out for enthusiastic horticulturists and those looking for inspiration. The Duchess of Bedford will officially open the new waterfall over the Rockery during the show and highlights include presenter Pippa Greenwood and Martin Fish, writer and BBC broadcaster, sharing their expertise. RHS Gold Medal Winning and other renowned plant nurseries will offer rare and interesting plants. New this year is ‘Focus on Food Tourism’, showcasing regional food and drink. Free guided garden tours are available with Woburn Abbey gardeners to give you an insight into the Humphry Repton landscape.

Tickets: £11.50, conc £10.50, children £6.50, see woburnabbey/gardenshow

Theatre & music in the open air

The Comedy of Errors will be performed by Chiltern Shakespeare Company at Hall Barn, Beaconsfield on 8 to 11 and 15 to 18 June. Performances start at 8pm with additional matinees on both Saturdays at 2pm. Grounds open two hours before performances for those wishing to picnic. Tickets from £16; concessions available.

On 12 June internationally renowned brothers Wynne and Mark Llewelyn Evans will sing, supported by Burnham-based Pop Goes the Choir in a programme from modern classics to light opera, tickets £25.

Let’s get outdoors

The Working Heavy Horse Show at Chiltern Open Air Museum in Chalfont St Giles is always a favourite with those who love to see the Shires, Clydesdales, Suffolk Punches and Percherons. Watch the horses carry out demonstrations of traditional farm work on Sunday, 19 June.
