There are lots of promoted cycle routes in the Chilterns both on and off-road, and many of them are signposted. They range from short day-rides to the 173 mile Chilterns Cycleway, a popular new route through the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which is easily split into Day Rides or two-day short breaks. Some ready-made itineraries can be downloaded off the Chilterns Cycleway web site www.chilternsaonb.org/cycleway. A guide book is available with detailed maps of the whole route, price 8.99, visit the Cycleway web site or call 01844 355500 for more information.

The Chilterns Cycleway was launched last June and takes in the best of Chilterns scenery. The route links attractions, market towns and places of interest. It is mainly on-road, following quiet roads where possible and it is signposted throughout.

One of the seasonal highlights in the Chilterns is the spectacular display of bluebells in the beechwoods, which usually takes place from mid to end of April and into May (visitwww.chilternsaonb.orgfor details of the best bluebell woods and the best time to visit). The Chilterns Cycleway passes by some of the best bluebell woods in Buckinghamshire, including Wendover Woods and Naphill Common, and exploring them by bike is a real delight.

The Chilterns Conservation Board is organising a number of guided cycle rides in May, taking in sections of the Chilterns Cycleway which members of the public can join.
