Did you know that Samuel Pepys started his diary 350 years ago this year? To celebrate this fact the award winning Chiltern Open Air Museum in Buckinghamshire is launching a childrens creative writing competition on Saturday 1st May 2010 at their Bank Holiday For King or Country event which features the action packed English Civil War Society.
The competition is entitled Today I.... and children are asked to use a diary as a starting point and to produce an entry as if they were someone living in the past. The entries can be about anyone, living at any time, being rich or poor, young or old. They can be about someone who is famous, an ancestor or just a made up person.
The rules are that each entry should be no more than 1 side of A4, each entry should have the childs name and age written on the reverse, all entries must be written by a child up to the age of 16 years old, all entries must be the childs own work and entries may include illustrations to support their writings. Only 1 entry is permitted per child.
All entries must be received by Friday 16th July, 2010 and the winning entry will be drawn on Saturday 21st August, 2010. For more information on the writing competition and all of the exciting events throughout the season go to www.coam.org.uk.
