The perfect spot from which to watch the Hennessy Festival at Newbury

Some of the best horse racing meetings are held between now and Christmas as the flat season ends and jumping begins, so don’t miss out
on all the thrills and fun

Fashionistas and celebrities are gearing up for the biggest three-days in the racing season as The Racecourse Newbury prepares for the bet365 Hennessy Festival.Taking place on Thursday 27, Friday 28 and Saturday 29 November, the extravaganza is a magnet for horse racing aficionados and those looking to strut the latest fashions. National treasure Joan Collins was there last November, while stars like Elizabeth Hurley, Myleene Klass, Cilla Black, Amanda Holden and even Tinie Tempah and Bear Grylls have attended in the past couple of years. The Princess Royal was on hand last year to present the prize to the winning connections of the Gold Cup.

The Saturday will feature the 58th edition of the prestigious Hennessy Gold Cup, which is Europe’s longest running sporting sponsorship. The last two years have seen runners in the historic race, Bobs Worth and Lord Windermere, go on to claim glory in the Cheltenham Gold Cup the following March.

The famous cognac brand will be creating a host of unique cocktails for attendees and exceptional restaurant and private box options make this a meeting not to be missed.

Julian Thick, Managing Director at The Racecourse Newbury, said: “The Hennessy Gold Cup occupies a special place in the sporting public’s hearts and we’re really excited about this year’s meeting.Top-class racing, serious fashion and style, brilliant hospitality, and a sprinkling of celebrities – what more could you ask for?”

Ticket prices range from £16-£30 for Grandstand and £24-£45 for Premier Enclosure depending on the day you attend, with early-bird booking discounts available. Before that the flat season is completed on 24 October with Fantastic Friday, and Worthington’s Armed Forces Raceday on 25 October.

The 8th Ascot CAMRA Beer Festival over Friday 3 and Saturday 4 October is hugely popular with its grand mix of flat racing and over 200 ales, ciders and perries to pick from – it might be easier to choose a winner!

Ticket packages which include beer vouchers can be bought – sounds like the perfect treat for those who enjoy a beer with their sport.

Moving on to 18 October, Ascot will be packed with exciting punters for the QIPCO British Champions Day, the culmination of the European Flat racing season which attracts the finest horses, from champion sprinters to those which excel at longer distances.

On 1 November the jump season begins with a card including the £100,000 United House Gold Cup Chase over three miles. See

We just have to recommend Windsor’s October afternoon race meetings – fun occasions that are also great value. We particularly like the fish and chip packages for for October 6, 13, 20 and 28, where a £25 Grandstand Enclosure ticket includes the fish and chips and a £5 drinks voucher.

For a special treat you can’t go wrong with one of the splendid dining packages in the panoramic Grandstand Restaurant (£89/104) for a racing day to remember. Perfect for birthdays and other family celebrations.

Finally, mark your diaries for Sunday 2 November, not a racing day but a dazzling fireworks adaption of War Horse, with a funfair and entertainment before the show starts at 6.30pm. Children £5, adults £9 (family package £19.50), see
