See the Enchanted Museum come to life on Saturday, 17 May as legendary creatures appear at Chiltern Open Air Museum!
As part of the national after-dark experience ‘Museums at Night’ the Museum, in Chalfont St Giles, Bucks, will open for a unique and exciting event from 6.30pm-10.30pm.
The museum’s historic buildings will be lit up by candle, lantern and firelight for you to explore, you’ll meet a host of mythical beasts and legendary characters along the way including Merlin, the Green Knight, the fearsome Minotaur and the beautiful winged Pegasus. Take part in our quest to discover hidden mythical objects and design your own heraldry to become a knight or lady of King Arthur’s court.
Children’s writer Kate O’Hearn, author of the ‘Pegasus’ series, will be storytelling by the fire in the Iron Age roundhouse. Kate will run workshops for children about the inspiration behind being an author, getting them excited about literacy and story building, and will be signing her books (available to purchase on the night) at 8pm.
Try your hand at family craft activities, including making masks and magic potions. Children can enter the fancy dress competition for the best enchanted costume, with Kate’s ‘Pegasus’ series of books available as the first prize.
Warming refreshments will available on the Village Green, including Pimms and locally produced Chilterns beer, so why not treat yourself to a glass of ambrosia, sit back and listen to some relaxing music as the sun sets over the Museum?
Museums at Night is a festival of after-hours culture which brings arts and heritage alive for visitors of all ages.
Kate O’Hearn says “I’m so looking forward to coming to the Museum and meeting a real live Pegasus! It’ll be great to see Chiltern Open Air Museum come to life in such an exciting way.”
