Huge leap forward for Trooper Potts campaign

Chris Tarrant OBE co-hosted The Trooper Potts VC Memorial Trust Charity Ball with Radio Berkshire’s Adie Williams at the Hilton Hotel, Reading.

Guests were welcomed by a Lance Guard from 94 (Berkshire Yeomanry) Signal Squadron.

Steve Woodford of major sponsors, Haslams Estate Agents’ and Trust Chairman Richard Bennett were delighted when the evening raised £40,000, with great bidding overseen by Patron Chris Tarrant in an auction.

Trooper Fred Potts was Reading’s only Victoria Cross holder and died in 1943. The trust is raising funds to ensure the town has a suitable memorial to his bravery. Among those joining guests were 20 members of Trooper Potts’s descendants and relatives, sculptor Tom Murphy and members of the Gallipoli and Dardanelles International Association.
