A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to swim the world class Dorney Lake near Windsor which will be used for Olympic and Paralympic events in 2012
Learning disability charity Mencap invites water-lovers everywhere to take the plunge in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to swim at a world class venue. Dorney lake near Windsor will be used for Olympic and Paralympic events in 2012, but on 25 July 2010, budding swimmers from across the country will get an exclusive chance to swim the Mencap Mile there.
With the stunning backdrop of Windsor Castle, Dorney Lake is home to Eton Colleges rowing centre and is regularly used for triathlon and open water swimming events. It is an ideal venue for those who love swimming in open water or want to enjoy the experience for the first time. Everyone is welcome to swim the Mencap Mile and the challenge can be taken in teams of three for those who want to join forces with friends or family.
Mencaps day out includes fun activities and opportunities to win great prizes, including hotel breaks and meals for two at some of Londons top restaurants.
Ellie Gray, Mencaps director of fundraising said: This is a one-off opportunity to swim in this stunning setting, so people should get practising their strokes and dig out their swimming caps. It will be an experience to remember!
Registration is 25 per person or 60 for a team of three, and the suggested sponsorship target is 50 or 150 for a team of three. Anyone who registers before 31 May is in with a chance of winning 150 of travel vouchers.
Those unable to make it to Windsor are still welcome to swim the Mencap Mile at their local swimming pool. More information and registration forms can be found at http://www.mencap.org.uk/event.asp?id=12795
