Planning a staycation or a visit to Berkshire? We round up some of the best locations to camp, glamp and caravan
Cookham Lock Campsite
If you like to pitch your tent on a patch of grass in peace and quiet, then you'll love it here. There are two areas in which to pitch tents: a sheltered one near the lock-keeper's house, and a more scenic one on Sashes Island, wedged between the Thames and Hedsor Water. There are toilets and a tap, but apart from that, just the stunning views.
California Chalet & Touring Park, Finchampstead
The chalets here nestle amid the trees and on the lakeside. They each have two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a lounge and kitchen area, sleeping 4-8. There are also 44 individual pitches for touring caravans, motor vans and tents. You can enjoy the nature trails, children's play area and paddling pool at California Country Park.
Featherdown Farm Bucklebury Reading Collection, Bucklebury
Set on 77 acres of rolling parkland and on the edge of Bucklebury village, this glamping experience is one you'll never forget. The sprawling farm and deer safari park is much more than a working farm: activities include tractor rides and Be a Farmer for the Day.
Hollington Park, Woolton Hill, near Newbury
You'll love these two sweet little vintage-styled cabins set in a clearing of private woodland. Each pod is fully serviced, has electricity and contains everything needed for a luxury self-catering glamping stay. There is an undercover chill-out and eating area, firepits, shower rooms, flushing and composting loos.
Hurley Lock, Hurley
A handful of locks offer basic camping facilities for the summer season, and one of the best is at Hurley. The village is a quiet backwater, home to the stylish Olde Bell coaching inn, and the Thames walks are pure bliss.
Hurley Riverside Park, Hurley
This lovely park by the river welcomes caravans, motorhomes, tents and RVs, or you can hire a fully-equipped and centrally-heated caravan with a garden.
Scotlands House Campsite, Warfield, Bracknell
The beautifully flat field here is perfect for camping and caravaning, and there is a playground adjacent to the field for younger visitors. It is a small, seculed campsite, very close to Legoland Windsor, Windsor Castle, The Lookout, Ascot Racecourse and more.
Wellington Country Park, Riseley
This lovely camping and caravanning campsite is situated amongst the forest in the country park, so you have all the facilities of the park to hand, such as the playgrounds, splash pad, farm, cafes and miniature railway.
