Whether its fireworks, arts or theatre you seek, November in Berkshire offers a colourful fiesta

The Mary Howard Christmas Fair

One of the region’s not-to-be-missed Christmas shopping and charity events comes to Newbury Racecourse from 8 to 11 November – the Mary Howard Christmas Fair. The fairs always attract thousands of visitors, and this year the chosen charity is The Injured Jockey Fund.

Mary and her husband Patrick started the fairs over 30 years ago. Sadly, Mary died in a car accident in 2008, but her family have continued to run the events and raise money for charity.

This year’s fair will cover three floors at The Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and contain over 100 stall holders offering antiques, food and drink, beauty and fragrance, beautiful fashion items, toys, gifts and everything for the home.

Book at maryhowardsales.co.uk/tickets. Tickets start from £10 and there are options to include a splendid lunch. Free parking is available at the racecourse and a shuttle bus service will take visitors to and from the car park to the fair entrance.

Feast of art at Windsor

Windsor Contemporary Art Fair returns to Royal Windsor Racecourse for its 12th year on Saturday 12 (10am-6pm), and Sunday, 13, November (10am to 5pm). Visitors can see and buy artwork, ceramics and sculptures from over 160 artists and galleries. Affectionately known for ‘real art for real people’, it is a must for any seasoned or budding art collector looking to purchase an original piece.

Meet the artists, talk about their creations and techniques and enjoy wine tasting and refreshments. There will also be painting workshops and quizzes to keep children entertained. Alongside the Art Fair is The Wine Affair – a celebration of the best in viniculture. Exhibitors from boutique vineyards to established independent merchants will share their passion for wine.

The fair’s organisers are supporting The Prince’s Trust, with all exhibitors contributing a small canvas to be sold to raise money. Advance tickets: adults £7 (£9 on door), Conc £6 (£8), children up to 16 £1, under fives free, windsorcontemporaryartfair.co.uk.

Fantastic floral design

The Frozen Floral Roadshow with Mig Kimpton comes to The Watermill, Newbury, at 7pm on 30 November and then moves to Norden Farm, Maidenhead, for shows at 2pm and 7.30pm on 2 December. RHS gold medal winner Mig creates a collection of breathtaking festive floral displays from scratch whilst regaling the audience with amusing anecdotes. Members
of the audience get the opportunity to help Mig with his displays and also to win one of the designs to take home at the end of the show. Tickets are £15, book at 01635 46044 watermill.org.uk, and 01628 788997 and nordenfarm.org.
