Milton Keynes carnival arts organisation Festive Road presents an exhibition at MK Gallery Project Space, showcasing work they have been delivering to children and young people from schools in the region over the past few years. The project space display will feature six case study areas; recycling, painting and drawing, green science, performance, visual narrative and carnival.
Festive Roads hands-on and inventive projects range from costumed carnival parades, the building of large-scale structures, to shadow puppetry and science. They have taken place in a wide variety of education and community settings, involving young people in creative learning experiences that encourage them to enquire, imagine and have fun.
Alongside the exhibition, Festive Road team members will be running a number of participatory activities, taking turns to lead MK Gallerys weekly Mini Makers sessions on 17, 24 and 31 March. These free, drop-in sessions, happening every Saturday from 1-3pm, are suitable for children aged 4+ and their families. Planned activities will range from mask-making to building windmills and beyond.
In addition, Festive Road will be hosting free, practical Twilight Sessions for teachers on 14 and 21 March from 4pm-5.30pm. In these making sessions teachers will get the chance to experiment with and explore some of the techniques and approaches used by Festive Road, providing them with new skills and fresh inspiration to take back to the classroom.
This includes a cycle-powered generator for people to have a go on, and the opportunity to contribute to ongoing projects, such as building a giant shoe out of shoes and creating festival decorations out of old bicycle wheels. To book these sessions call 01908 921018 or email email@example.com.
