Her Majesty the Queen unveils Diamond Jubilee monument

Windsor Girls School student Caroline Basra will never forget the day when Her Majesty unveiled a lasting tribute to mark the Diamond Jubilee in the town, as she designed the contemporary statue.

Standing just a short walk from Windsor Castle in King Edward Court shopping centre, it has 59 spheres of stainless steel, with a cut glass one at the top, representing each year of the Queens reign.

Caroline, 15, came up with the winning design in a competition and was introduced to Her Majesty at the unveiling ceremony. Her vision was turned into reality by Craufurd Ltd of Slough following fundraising supported by private individuals, charities and donors including ICI Paints Akzonobel, Heathrow Airport Ltd, New Look Retailers Ltd, Windsor & Eton Society, Rotary Club of Windsor & Eton, Windsor & Eton Town Partnership, Rotary Club of Windsor St George, London & Associated Properties plc and the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.
