MP Cheryl Gillan gives her view.
Cheryl Gillan, MP for Chesham and Amersham and a catalyst for anti-HS2 protest, says: Across Chesham and Amersham and throughout the Chilterns, there is a huge strength of feeling over the proposals for HS2 and the impact its construction and operation could have on our local communities and the beautiful and fragile environment of the Chilterns AONB.
The preferred route now includes amendments to the original routing (some of which improve the situation in Chesham and Amersham) but there remain valid alternatives.
As we enter the consultation period, I will be ensuring that the case for alternatives is made as strongly as possible: examining the business case for the project as well as its environmental impact.
Since HS2 was announced I have been working closely with campaign groups, interested parties and Parliamentary colleagues to rigorously challenge the proposals. I am keen to hear from any individual or group who can help to build the case.
We have a great deal of expertise throughout the constituency and I would encourage all my constituents to make their views known in the consultation.
