With frying pans at the ready, more than 10 teams showed they had the key ingredients needed to take part in the Flippin' Windsor & Eton Pancake Challenge 2009.

Team members from the Windsor restaurant The Cattlegrid - Alex Roberts, Tamra Gray, Shaun Gray and Steve Novak - beat the team from the Christopher Wren Hotel on merely the toss of a pancake, to whisk away the 2009 title.

Crowds gathered in the Windsor Royal Shopping Centre on Shrove Tuesday morning to witness the spectacle of grown men (and women) in rollers, headscarves and frocks battle it out in the hotly contested heats.

Children from St George's School were there to give welcome support to their team (and others!), whilst shoppers and unsuspecting tourists on their way to the Castle soon found themselves drawn into the excitement of the almost-gladiatorial knock-out.
Over £1,000 is expected to be raised from the Pancake Challenge with the funds shared between the Windsor Christmas Lights Appeal and Thames Hospicecare.
