Royal Ascot sparkles in the sunshine

The sensational hats and fashion styles competed as usual with the glamour of the ceremonial side of the Royal meeting (it even failed to rain on Ladies Day), and the stricter dress code meant we were spared some of the more flesh-bearing outlandish outfits.
But, quite rightly, the stiffest competition is always on the course, with first class racing and nail-biting finishes throughout the festival.
This year HM the Queen had to settle for 2nd place in the Gold Cup when her brave mare Estimate just failed to complete a double, losing out to Aidan O’Brien’s Leading Light. And there was huge success for Highclere Thoroughbred Racing when Telescope, ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by Sir Michael Stoute, left the rest of the field behind to land the Hardwicke Stakes.
