There's a special visitor to this year's Royal County of Berkshire Show...
Its show time
Theres a special visitor to this years Royal County of Berkshire Show. A huge man made of wicker will be gracing the ground with its presence. The 30 feet high wooden wicker sculpture will be towering above the grounds, as part of its tour across Oxfordshire and Berkshire. The Wicker Man - Oxford Sculpture Project is currently being built by local schoolchildren across Oxfordshire, before it is burnt at a special event in November.
The Wicker man isnt the only big attraction. In the Main ring, the White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team, made up of 30 volunteer Soldiers from the Royal Corps of Signals, is bound to be a sure-fire hit. The Band and Bugles of The Rifles will also be demonstrating their skills.
For equestrian enthusiasts, the Show has a high standard of show jumping and showing classes, including the final of British Showjumpings International Stairway Competition.
Following on from last years centenary celebrations, the Show continues its themes of Great British Food and livestock with a host of spectacular features to keep visitors entertained.
The 2010 Show will be heralded as the year of the pig as our intelligent friend gets a new Championship class, alongside all the usual cattle, sheep, poultry, goats and camelids. The 2008 Shows Berkshire Pig Breed Champion iseven fronting the Shows promotional material across the county!
Among the 600 shops which will include everything from homeware to fashion, and jewellery to crafts, will be the Shows popular Food Fare Marquee., while the craft fair will house over 70 stalls.
Also new this year is the Young Farmers Tug of War National Championships Final. Heats will run throughout the weekend with the victorious team being crowned on Sunday.
