HM The Queen is an expert in all things racing – as an owner she had 20 winners last year – and has courses ‘on her doorstep’

Royal Windsor

The season gets underway with afternoon racing on 11 April, heralding a great season and Windsor’s highly enjoyable Monday night meetings. On 18 April take advantage of free grandstand enclosure tickets (two per household, subject to availability – you need to register online for these at www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk).

Other highlights of the season include Family Fun Days on 2 and 30 May; a Celebration of HM The Queen’s 90th Birthday on 16 May and marking 150 years of racing at Windsor on 6 June. Windsor’s Best of British Festival runs from 25 June with Gentlemen’s Day, there’s a Family Fun Day on Sunday, 26 June, and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Night on 27 June. Ladies Night with The Human League live is on 27 August.

We’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating, the packages at Windsor for dining and hospitality are excellent – we’re big fans of the River Package which brings you right to the course from central Windsor by boat and includes drinks and betting vouchers.

Enjoy racing here right from the start of the month, at the end of the jump season, with The Prince’s Countryside Fund Raceday on 3 April. The fund overseen by HRH The Prince of Wales supports the people who live and work in the countryside. This is a great family day out, with traditional crafts and skills on display, with lots for youngsters to marvel at.

The first day of the flat season on 27 April is also Discover Ascot Raceday, with free entrance for adults and children to the Queen Anne Enclosure, or Premier Admission reduced to £13 when booked in advance.

There’s a racing weekend over 6 and 7 May before the five-day feast that is Royal Ascot runs from 14 June. July includes another two-dayer on 8 and 9, and then it’s on to the big event of the month, the King George VI Weekend on 22 and 23 July.

The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup and concert takes place on 6 August.

Book up quick for excellent summer season packages.

Enjoy the end of the jump season on Friday and Saturday, 1 and 2 April, and then thrilling flat racing begins with the Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials Friday & Beer Festival on 15 and 16 April.

A definite date for the diary is the Al Shaqab Lockinge Day on 14 May when some of Europe’s finest thoroughbreds compete in a card which includes the £350,000 Group 1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes. Make a weekend of it by attending the preceding Starlight Charity evening of racing on 13 May.

There are daytime or evening meetings on 13 May, 9, 23 and 30 June, 7 and 15 July, prior to one of our favourites, the Weatherbys Super Sprint Day on 16 July when soul legends Simply Red will perform after the racing. Other summer highlights include the Dubai International Arabian Raceday on 24 July and Betfred Ladies Day on 13 August.

Packages and hospitality at the friendly course are great value, with a host of choices from light bites to fine dining in The Hennessy.
