The Betfair Lambourn Open on Good Friday, 29 March is a great day out

Jockeys versus the Household Cavalry? Swimming horses and a peek behind the scenes at top racing stables? It all has the makings of great family fun day, and we can recommend The Betfair Lambourn Open on Good Friday, 29 March.

Highlights this year include the Household Cavalry performing their spectacular Musical Ride involving 28 horses and 36 soldiers with four state trumpeters and HM the Queens drum horse.

The soldiers from the Household Cavalry will also show off their jumping skills when they take on top jockeys including AP McCoy, John Francome and Mick Fitzgerald in a show jumping competition against the clock. Other activities in the afternoon include schooling over fences and hurdles by top jockeys.

Visit the stables

In the morning, visitors can explore some of the top racing establishments in the country. You might visit twice Champion Trainer Nicky Hendersons yard, Seven Barrows, and watch horses swimming in the equine pool at Windsor House Stables where Harry Dunlop trains. There is also the chance to visit the Equine Veterinary Hospital.

Yards and equine sites will open between 8.30am to 1pm and events in the Show Ring run from 1 to 5pm. The afternoon entertainment includes farrier displays, pony rides, childrens activities, trade stands and food stalls, providing plenty of shopping opportunities.

Tickets cost 12 for the day and 6 after 1pm, whilst children go free. Money is raised for local charities, the Lambourn Housing Trust and Thames Valley and Air Ambulance. For further details see www.lambourn.info
