ABF The Soldiers Charity Berkshire is delighted to announce:

a concert in aid of

ABF The Soldiers Charity

onTuesday 22 November 2011

atThe Concert Hall, Reading

A soldier on leave from Afghanistan will be one of the soloists performing at a concert in aid of ABF The Soldiers Charity on November 22 at Reading Concert Hall. Lance Sergeant Nick Stones joins colleagues drawn from the 22 bands of the Corps of Army Music, all currently serving in the Army, to play a repertoire under the baton of the Armys Principle Director of Music Lieutenant Colonel Bob Meldrum MBE.

String players are drawn mainly from the London- based State Bands of the Household Cavalry, Royal Artillery and Foot Guards whilst brass, woodwind and percussion specialists hail from as far afield as the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland based in Edinburgh.

ABF The Soldiers Charity Berkshire Committee Chairman Peter Walker is delighted to announce that, thanks to sponsorship, generous concessions can now be offered to schools and other educational institutions, and those with connections past or present to the armed forces.

He commented: Sinfonietta showcases a breadth of talent not often available to be enjoyed in concert due to the commitments of serving soldiers. For example, the Army Corps of Music recruits strings players to fulfil its commitment to state events, but opportunities to perform as an orchestra can be limited. Sinfonietta gives this opportunity to perform repertoire and at a level beyond what can be achieved in a single band, and we would like as many people as possible to enjoy a rare opportunity whilst raising money to support soldiers in need.

The programme:

Mendelssohn Fingal's Cave Overture Op 26 (The Hebrides)

Wiren Serenade Op 11

Strauss Concerto for Horn No 1 in Eb Op 11

Tchaikovsky Variations on a Rococo Theme Op 33

Schubert Symphony No 5 in Bb D 485
