Local people in the Maidenhead area are getting ready to celebrate the opening of a brand new £1.3 million leisure Cox Green Leisure Centre at 1pm on Sunday 26 September at Highfield Lane, Cox Green, SL6 3AX.

The new facilities build on the existing facilities at Cox Green, which include grass football pitches, a third generation artificial pitch and a sports hall. This new development will allow the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to maximise the use of grass and artificial pitches by local football clubs and increase the sports participation opportunities available for the local community.

The project was funded with the help of a 230,000 grant from the Football Foundation. Funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government via Sport England, the Football Foundation is the nations largest sports charity. Launched in July 2000, it celebrates its tenth anniversary this summer and has so far supported around 8,000 community sports projects worth 930m.

Cllr Dudley said: It would be great to see the entire community turn out for Sundays event as this fantastic venue has been designed for the use of residents of all ages and physical abilities and local football enthusiasts thanks to the support from Football Foundation.

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation said: We are delighted that the local community will have access to these fantastic new facilities and commend the Council, the Berkshire & Buckinghamshire County FA and all other stakeholders for their hard work in making this happen.

Sport is playing a central role in helping people to stay fit, strengthen communities and promote responsibility amongst young people. The Cox Green project in Maidenhead is the latest example of thousands of projects across the country that the Football Foundation is supporting with money provided by our funding partners the Premier League, The FA and Government.
