Buckinghamshire rider takes a national title at the NAF Five Star Winter Dressage Championships 2011

Aylesbury entrepreneur Dr Claire Abel has scored a national victory in the Blue Chip Novice Open Winter Championship at the NAF Five Star Winter Dressage Championships 2011 on 15 April.

Riding her own seven year old gelding Rowan Magic [Roo], Claire clinched the win against 25 fellow competitors. The pair has been together for six months following two shopping trips to the Netherlands, I went to Holland looking for a Prix St Georges horse and came back with a green six year old! Claire told British Dressage, As soon as I sat on him I knew he was for me.

Discussing the test, Claire said: The medium canter was nearly a medium bolt; if you lose him, you lose him and Id have had to do three laps and started again!
Claire has evented up to 3* level and described her path to dressage: I owned a horse that was great at showjumping and dressage but ditches and water really werent his thing. I brought him to the Spillers combined training at the winters and after that I swapped to pure dressage.

The rider, who is trained by Stephen Moore and Adam Kemp explained, Weve qualified for the novice and elementary summer regionals and hope to have a go at the medium and advanced medium Petplan festivals; his changes are there but are still green. We want to take him as far as he can go, and I hope that will be all the way.
