Martha Collison’s debut cookbook

One of our favourite foodies, Great British Bake Off’s Martha Collison, has her debut cookbook out
No one will forget Martha, who at 17 was somehow juggling her AS levels with appearing before TV cameras as the nation watched her tremble under the scrutiny of judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.
As she confessed to this magazine, one of the hardest tasks was keeping her appearance a secret and how she would always be grateful to teachers at Charters School in Sunningdale for helping to hide her ‘disappearances’ which mystified fellow students.
Martha may not have won the contest, but she was a favourite of many viewers. Since then the girl who did shifts on the nearby Waitrose cheese counter has baked for the Queen’s 90th birthday, become a Waitrose Columnist and is this year’s afternoon tea consultant at Wimbledon.
The there’s being the face of Cadbury’s Crème Eggs, projects with Mars, a bake-along with Archbishop Justin Welby and her work as a passionate supporter of the charity Tearfund (which uses baking in safe houses to prevent human trafficking in Cambodia). At 19, she’s come a long way in a short time and we’ve been wondering when a book would appear.
Now TWIST: Creative Ideas to Reinvent Your Baking, her debut cookbook, is just out. The concept is simple: take a favourite recipe, a contemporary bake and twist it! Whether it’s a pink grapefruit drizzle cake, lemon sherbet doughnuts, lemon and earl grey teacakes, peach Bellini macarons or a Reggae road (the tropical rum version!), TWIST is bursting with classic bakes and unique twists and variations to try.
Self-taught Martha has always been into experimental baking so the twists in this book turn the likes of a classic chocolate cake into a showstopper. You can order the hardback book on Amazon and follow more of Martha’s adventures at bakingmartha.co.uk.
