The runnymede-on-thames near Windsor to welcome Colonel Robert Jordan on the final night of his 500 mile journey
The runnymede-on-thamesis delighted that it will be welcoming Colonel Robert Jordan, pictured, with open arms on the final night of his 500 mile crusade, Exercise Home Stretch from Heidelberg, Germany to The Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst.
To celebrate the end of Colonel Jordans illustrious military career, he bravely decided to embark on an epic walk to raise money for three charities close to his heart; Help for Heroes, ABF The Soldiers Charity and Stoll. Colonel Jordan set off from Germany on the 3rd November and will be arriving to a heros welcome at the runnymede-on-thames on 3rd December, the night before his final leg to RMA Sandhurst.
His route will cover some 480 miles (less the ferry from Dunkirk to Dover) and take him through Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, France and UK. Colonel Jordan has already covered over 120 miles and is on track to reach his original goal of 20 miles a day.
Explaining the motivation behind this inspiring challenge, Colonel Robert Jordan said I had thought that I might have a retirement party, but on reflection I felt that I wanted to do something different and something that would have a more long-lasting effect. I also wanted to leave the Army with one more achievement under my belt, rather than a few more beers in my belly!
To greet Colonel Jordan after what will have undoubtedly been a brutal challenge both physically and mentally, the runnymede-on-thames will be serving a delicious energy fuelled supper to revitalise him for the final leg of his journey, back up to RMA Sandhurst where his military career began 35 years ago. The colonel will also be treated to a deep tissue massage to ease his aching muscles and enjoy a well deserved blissful nights sleep in the riverside 4* hotel.
