Honest Mum Vicki Psarias: Relaxing in Berkshire, interviewing Kim Catrall and some memorable milestones

It has been a month of two halves for me. The first: sheer serenity roaming pretty vineyards of Franschhoek and living our best beach lives in the achingly beautiful Cape Town in South Africa. The latter: back to normality with more washing than the local laundrette, and the frantic but fun pace of life that is work and kids here in Berkshire, London and beyond.
My husband, Peter, and I have admittedly tried to implement some more of the relaxing vibes we experienced on holiday into our everyday lives with more cafe stops post-school run or in our lunch break, mostly at Craft Coffee House, a chic indie coffee shop in Windsor, which boasts homemade cakes, strong coffee and even Rooibos to boot.
South Africa really did offer us all a chance to chill out and provided me with somewhat of a digital detox, too. I posted on my social channels at night and filmed a little in the day, but I mostly switched off from work and documenting my life 24/7. The kids, surprisingly, got on for most of the holiday (a first) so I managed to read three books (how has it taken me until now to discover the inimitable Jojo Moyes?!) and I spent the majority of our holiday overlooking the mountainous terrain on our balcony, a book in one hand, a glass of local wine in the other. Huge thanks to Home Exchange for gifting us our wonderful apartment.
Other memories include picture-perfect sunsets that will be forever imprinted on my mind, along with the ever-so-cheeky antics of the chimpanzees we witnessed throwing balls at our heads at an animal sanctuary, and a bunch of moody lions Xander couldn't believe we were so close to. We even got to meet Pigcasso, an accomplished pig who paints at a farm sanctuary. Sun, sea and fabulous food revived and restored us all.
In other news, my blogging and vlogging career has led to some memorable career milestones: writing my book, interviewing Westlife, cooking with Jamie Oliver and regularly appearing on national TV. But this month, I interviewed an actress whose show has deeply affected, inspired and comforted me over the years, and I won't forget it. I remember watching the first episode of the series aged 16 as if it were yesterday, wide-eyed and agog at such powerful, sexually liberated and dynamic women. Of course, the show was Sex and the City and the actress I interviewed was Kim Catrall, who stars in the new, side-splittingly funny, must-see film Horrible Histories: The Movie. You can watch the video over on my IGTV and YouTube Channel (just search Honest Mum) to watch my interviews with Kim, Nick Frost and other cast members.
Back in Windsor, now the sun is out, we've spent time at the expansive Alexandra Gardens, the magnificent Long Walk and the children's "best playground EVER", Bachelor's Acre. There's so much on our doorstep. Fingers crossed we end up with a long Indian summer rather than a tumultuous and drizzly British one, huh?
