Meet our new columnist, Windsor-based ‘Honest Mum’ Vicki Psarias
Hello I'm Vicki, although most people know me as 'Honest Mum' thanks to my parenting and lifestyle blog of the same name. I've been a resident of Windsor for nearly two years now, and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. It's an honour to join the Berkshire Life team as a columnist as this was the first magazine I picked up when we moved here, and I've read it ever since.
If you're not familiar with my work, (where have you been? ha), then let me introduce myself: I'm a blogger, vlogger and TV parenting expert, and mum to my sweet sons Oliver, nine, and Alexander, six. My debut bestselling book, MUMBOSS − The Honest Mum's Guide to Surviving and Thriving at Work and at Home was published in May 2018 (with Windsor Waterstones kindly giving me a full window display, prompting me to do a happy dance down Peascod Street), and I'm in the midst of more book tour dates with the next stops being Belfast and York.
A little bit more about me… Born in Leeds, I met my husband, Peter, during our uni days in London, and after 11 busy years in the Big Smoke and one baby boy later, we decided to move from Barnes in South West London back to Yorkshire to be closer to my family. Not long before that, I'd started my blog, honestmum.com, on maternity leave from my job as a TV Director in the midst of feeling identity-less and confused after a traumatic birth.
Thankfully, my blog helped me rediscover my voice and slowly, my confidence too. And as the digital landscape exploded, I found I'd created an accidental career blogging and vlogging, which worked around my family.
In my book, MUMBOSS, I share all that I've learned in the eight years of working digitally, and cover everything from how to create a personal brand to managing the juggle of work and family, overcoming self-doubt and learning how to rest even though the internet never does!
My unwavering mission has always been to inspire, inform and mobilise mums who are so often handed the short straw in the workplace. The internet, however, has proved to be a leveller and a game-changer, and hearing that I've encouraged women to embrace a new career or return to work after maternity leave with renewed confidence is the greatest driving force for me.
When it comes to my working life, no one day is ever the same… I could be speaking about enterprise or mental health in Parliament, striking a pose for eminent photographer Rankin (more on that next issue), or even interviewing superstars like Westlife(!) but my constants in life are my family, my love for Berkshire and our lives here. Every day in the Royal borough feels like a holiday thanks to picture-postcard views of the castle and river on the school run, or picking up fresh bread on market days on a weekend in the town centre, or even enjoying a special occasion spa day at Cliveden House hotel in Taplow. Berkshire is achingly beautiful and I can't wait to share what I get up to here with you each month.
Thanks! (*clinks glasses)
