Hedsor House will be gracing the silver screen again as one of the UK locations chosen for Mortdecai, released on 23 January.

The action comedy film directed by David Koepp and written by Eric Aronson features an all-star cast that includes Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor and Olivia Munn with Jeff Goldblum, and Paul Bettany.

Hedsor House, the award-winning corporate events, wedding and filming venue in Buckinghamshire was used when filming at Pinewood moved there for the privately-owned Georgian country house’s Boudoir and Bridal Suite to be transformed into key sets.

After filming the movie, which is based on a novel by Kyril Bonfiglioli, Johnny Depp wrote in Hedsor House’s visitor’s book: “An absolutely amazing place! Many thanks for allowing us this visit. Much respect.”

“Hedsor House is a fabulous location,” said Jason Wheeler, Supervising Location Manager of Mortdecai. “Architecturally and visually it was exactly what we were looking for but, also on a practical level, Hedsor House is a private, film-friendly venue, close to both Pinewood Studios and London. The team are highly experienced and understand the requirements of a demanding feature film and always do whatever is needed to support the production.”

Jason added: “We made a number of alterations to the lighting and decor in the two rooms to give them the look and feel of the film. As the house is privately owned, the team are always happy to accommodate these required details.”

Once the 18th Century home of Augusta, the Princess of Wales, mother of King George III, Hedsor House is today privately run by the fourth generation of the Shephard family as a thriving venue for exclusive weddings, events and filming, located in Taplow just 35 minutes from central London.

Partner Nick Shephard, who heads up the venue’s film location work and met Johnny Depp while he was filming at the house, said: “We were extremely excited that Hedsor House was chosen as a location for Mortdecai. There was certainly a buzz around the venue when the cast were filming with us!”

Hedsor House has also been featured in high-profile films such as Dustin Hoffman’s Quartet, Golden Compass, Brighton Rock, Red 2 and on TV programmes including Spooks, Downton Abbey and Midsummer Murders.
