A former Reading student has been honoured in the music world.

Laura Marling, who studied GCSEs and A-levels at Leighton Park School, Reading, scooped herself the title of best Female Solo Artist at the Brit Awards.
Laura gained a music scholarship in Year 8. By the time she had reached Year 10 she was asked to write and perform a song for BBC Radio 4. At just 16 Laura started playing gigs around Berkshire.
Rosemary Scales, Director of Music, said: During her Music Scholarship audition Laura played one of the songs that she had written at the age of 13, which was just amazing. Her father introduced her to folk music, she was so receptive to the music anyway, and his record collection was an inspiration to Laura.
