Where do you live?

I live in Crowthorne with my husband and two cats, and I run LouPaper, a stationery and calligraphy business. I teach calligraphy across the county and I love meeting local people to pass my passion on to.

Best bits about the county?

For me, cuisine is my second love after calligraphy, and I like nothing more than sitting down with a cup of tea and a slice of cake or a scone. From the quaint Whittington’s Tea Barge on the river in Caversham to the luxury surroundings of Coworth Park in Ascot, there really is something for everyone’s taste and budget.

Best local discovery?

When searching for venues for my calligraphy workshops, I was recommended the lovely Foxes’ Den in Binfield. It’s a wonderful community café that’s at the heart of the village. They host so many wonderful activities for people of all ages, as well as vulnerable groups. The space is perfect for me as it’s so light and bright and is full of quirky mismatched furniture! I am so pleased I can support the local community whilst hosting my workshops in such lovely surroundings.

Where do you like to dine out locally?

My husband and I love The Shurlock Inn in Shurlock Row. The food is delicious, but their customer service and jovial staff set them apart for sure. We’ve also discovered a small Italian café in Crowthorne called Villa Roma that does the most amazing authentic Italian pizzas. It has helped to fill the void of not being able to eat out during lockdown.

Tell us about your career

I founded LouPaper back in 2015, merging my degree in graphic design with over a decade of experience in the wedding industry. My wedding journey started at the age of 15, when
I worked in a local wedding shop. I’ve loved weddings ever since!

I attended a calligraphy course and mastered the process; I knew that hand lettering was going to play a big part in my designs. All my calligraphy is bespoke with everything being written by hand. I adore how it brings personality to each of the designs I create.

Calligraphy offers the perfect escape, providing a sense of calm, and it is a great way to practise mindfulness. My love for calligraphy led me to start teaching calligraphy workshops in the local area, to share my knowledge and passion with the next generation of enthusiasts.

Tell us about your new kits

When lockdown hit, I knew I wanted to still be able to give as many people as possible the chance to try calligraphy in the comfort of their own home.

The videos take you step-by-step through learning modern calligraphy and allow you to go at your own pace. The kit is posted to you and includes all the tools you’ll need. I’ve had lots of lovely feedback saying how it has helped during recent times by alleviating anxiety, or providing a new focus through learning a skill.
