Royal Borough Mayor visits Buckinghamshire New University

The Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead popped in to Buckinghamshire New University at High Wycombe to gain a first-hand look at the type of glass-blowing techniques being used to make a trophy for his charity competition.
Associate lecturer Richard Price is putting the final touches to the trophy, which will be presented to the winner of a competition set by Councillor Asghar Majeed for restaurants and businesses in the borough to raise money for specific charities.
The competition, called Do-eat then Do-nate, involves restaurants and businesses raising money for one of Cllr Majeed and his sister, Naheeds, chosen charities.
Mr Price invited Cllr Majeed to take a look at how its done in the glass studio at Bucks New University, in Queen Alexandra Road, High Wycombe. The Mayor also saw first-year students studying BA (Hons) 3D Contemporary Crafts and Products shaping glass pieces in the workshop.
Cllr Majeed said: This is the first time I have seen glass-blowing first-hand and it is quite an experience, and an amazing skill to see carried out. Its so hot near the kilns they use in here I was worried my Mayoral chains may melt!
Student Rebecca Davie said it was very nice to have such a distinguished visitor see her and her classmates at work.
She said: Its a hard skill to master so the Mayor would probably need a few more visits to improve his skills. It is good that he has come to see the interesting work here and how the trophy is being made.
Mr Price, who is carrying out the work as a commission for The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, said he had been keen to invite Cllr Majeed along to have a look at the facilities in action at Bucks New University.
He said: Its been a pleasure to show Cllr Majeed the type of work that is going in to completing the trophy and it should add an extra context for him when he is presenting it to the competition winner.
