Walkies time for the Westies of West Berkshire

A group of West Highland terriers plus other dogs from across West Berkshire and beyond gathered at Greenham Common on for the second annual West Berkshire Mencap Westie Walk.

Despite torrential rain, owners and dogs alike enjoyed a circular walk around the common in aid of West Berkshire Mencap. Anyone who’s ever owned a Westie will know that these spirited little dogs are not bothered by rain, even when it’s coming at them sideways (the lcue is in the name!).

The walk, inspired by West Berkshire Mencap’s Chief Executive Leila Ferguson, hopes to raise awareness of the charity which provides a wide range of high quality services for local people with learning disabilities and their parents and carers.

Among the participants was Snowy, West Berkshire Mencap’s own Westie who works as a therapy dog at the charity. His owner, Chief Executive Leila Ferguson said: “Thank you so much to everyone who braved the rain to attend this unique event. We will be holding this event again next year, so please spread the word!”
